The Cool Kids One thing Outside Lands seemed short of was some of the more rap and hip hop artists and electronic DJs selections. Unlike Coachella with its expansive electronic dance tent and Lollapalooza with an assortment of hip hop artists and dance stages, this festival was for the most part a lot of white folk and rock artists (even some forgotten ones- like Cake anyone?)- save a token rapper or two (Lupe Fiasco) and a splattering of world music (thank you Manu C... Hey everyone, It's been a while since i last Mogged. I've missed you. So to catch you all up, I've been working on my solo record and it's sounding super dope! Mike Fratantuno is producing six of the tracks. You may know Mike from his old band The Black Eyed Peas. Mike and his production crew (The Transenders) are also doing all the music for the hit show Gossip Girl. Shit is real! Tom Biller is producing five additional tracks, and is going to mix the record. Tom... MORE
BON IVER Midday, songster Bon Iver, i.e. Justin Veron, caused an ethereal acoustic shivers through the crowd. The good kind. Gifted with a husky, emotive falsetto, Bon Iver is a pleasure to watch perform- no strings attached, no masks or glittering costumes necessary. His music? Hints of chamber music harmonies that melds with deep, pensive acoustic strumming. The result? The simple guitar-and-me set felt of a tiny little acoustic session by the sea. Mid-set, Bon Iver eve... It seems as if the release season is finally here. For the third week in a row, quality releases hit the shelves, leaving me to wonder if the record industry is truly dead afterall. Who am I kidding? Of course it is. But at least they are still trying, right? Slipknot - All Hope is Gone BB King - One Kind Favor The Verve - Forth Little Feat - Join the Band The Game - LAX Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Motorhead - Motorizer Dragonforce - Ultra Beatdown Jimmy Wayne - Do... I just found these cool episodes of Saul Williams' Niggy TV. They feature concert footage, interviews and ideas all straight from the man himself: Niggy TV - Episode 1:
Hear Saul talk about the video for Convict Colony. Niggy TV - Episode 2:
Niggy Tardust? Barak Obama? Watch Episode 2 and find out. Watching those 2 episodes, and any Saul Williams videos for that matter, makes me wonder: Is Saul Williams a crazy man or a genius? Can he actua... MORE

Sunday was a sun-blessed day in Golden Gate Park as Outside Lands kicked off with Nicole Atkins and Toots and the Maytals. In fact, evidently two guys were so psyched about the weather that they decided to drop trou in public- which didn't make the cops too happy. DROPPING TROU? Regardless, Nicole Atkins & The Sea soothed all woes with dark, psychedelic Jersey-shore romantic strumming and warpling voice. Next up, Toots reigned reggae king again on the ma... MORE
I like living in a world where KRS-One is still releasing tunes and filming videos. The latest one finds KRS-One (sounding a little dancehall to my ears) working with director Tee Smif on "Rider Pt.2":
aw yeah
One of the leaked songs from Chinese Democracy, "I.R.S.", features the lyric "Gonna call the FBI." And apparently, Axl Rose wasn’t dicking around. Yahoo! News reports that 27-year-old Kevin Cogill (whose name had previously been reported as "Kevin Skwerl," but whatever), a.k.a. the dude who leaked a shitload of Chinese Democracy songs earlier this summer, has [...]

Amanda Palmer is an enigma. A Pandora's box. A multidimensional puzzle. We'll never completely figure her out, but that's cool. We like it better that way. Girl's dangerous, anyways, so...you know. Her new record is out September 16 and, um,...

"Announcement" is the first video/single off Comon's upcoming album Invincible Summer. The video takes a really simplistic approach and is comprised mostly of a plain white background and animations. I know all the hip hop fans out there are breathing a sigh of relief that Common Decided not to release "Universal Mind Control" as a single, considering the negative reaction it got.
