Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers put on a great show in Charlotte last night. The line up of Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Scott Thurston & Steve Ferrone hasn't changed and I was glad of that. Tom Petty was wrong when he said that 2007 would be his last tour. The heartbreaker just announced live shows in 36 cities May 30th-August 29th 2008. In an effort to keep the Super Bowl half time show PG since Janet Jackson's boob incident, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform at this season's football championship game. Scheduled for the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on February 3rd, Petty follows in the footsteps of Paul McCartney and Prince who performed at the recent past Super Bowls.
Petty's performance will sponsored by Bridgestone tire corporation.

Peter Bogdanovich created an "exemplary" and engaging rock documentary about Tom Petty called "Running Down A Dream." Despite being four-hours long, the story is fascinating. The movie commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Heartbreakers' debut album. Bogdanovich told the UK Telegraph:

Around 11 this morning, while doing my usual rounds of procrastinational activities preparatory to starting any actual work, I read deadmandeadman’s morning post and thus became aware by chance that today is Superbowl Sunday. So it's taken me a week to get on here and update about it, but Tom Petty's Gainesville, FL homecoming concert last Thursday night kicked ASS! If you're ever going to see an artist doing a 30-year anniversary tour, see 'em in their hometown, because there's nothing else quite like it. Tom & the Heartbreakers totally rocked (as always) and the hometown crowd really made the event something special. There wasn't a single song in Petty's 2.5-hour repertoire that wasn't be... MORE

I only have four simple words: I LOVE TOM PETTY!! That's right, I love everything about his songs, his lyrics and him. For those of you who do not recognize his name, Tom and The Heartbreakers rose to fame for many a wonderful song, but the most played by far is Free Fallin', and it is almost overplayed for very very good reason.
