DOSE ANYTHING HERE SUGGEST POKEMAN? BTW: WTF IS POKEMAN?

Not much is certain about the authorship of this, most of us believe its a mostly ad-libbed one-off Dylan thing that sorta grew to a point that building a song around it (with an eye towards "real" lyrics later?) seemed like a good idea. This was recorded during the (in)famous Bromberg Sessions.

Tynan's Anger contributes to the crappy listmaking military-industrial complex

In part inspired by the Guardian's prompting, I crapped out a list of who, in my mind, were the top 5 lyricists of all times:
1. Bob Dylan
2. Ray Davies
3. Patti Smith
4. John Lennon
5. Robert Johnson
This has led me to think of a feature piece and with that in mind, next week I'll spend a day on each 5 summarizing why that lyricist fits the bill. Who would you put there? Comment here and on the Guardian's site, I dare ya.... MORE

i used to care

My version of Bob Dylan's "Love & Theft" starts off with "Things Have Changed." I decided one day that, much as I loved the album, I wasn't happy with the way it started, so I shuffled some music around and made Dylan's earlier song from the "Wonder Boys" soundtrack Track One, like how "Like A Rolling Stone" is the earlier single that leads off "Highway 61 Revisted." So now the album begins, for me, with Dylan in a strip club ("There's a woman on my lap and she's drinki... MORE

Blog post image preview There's no stopping Bob Dylan. Even though he thinks the music world is" a made-up bunch of hypocritical rubbish," Dylan is still heading out on another US tour following his jaunt through Europe this July. "I know that the book people are a whole lot saner,” Dylan, who's released a bunch of books through out his life, was quoted saying by Contact Music. “And the art world? From the small steps I've taken in it, I'd say, yeah, the people are honest, upfront ... MORE

Bob Dylan says Barack Obama is 'changin' America

Exclusive interview with Bob from Times UK Odense, Denmark, and the not-quite-grand hotel that for the next two nights will be a home away from home for Bob Dylan. He arrived here from Reykjavik, four days after his 67th birthday and in the first stages of a lengthy itinerary that will take him through Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Austria, Italy, France, Andorra, Spain and Portugal between now and mid-July. To his irritation, others long ago gave this ongoing schedule... MORE

Dylan

(16)
Bob Dylan's songs are timeless. Not many are. Before the computer music age, a song had to be good before it was published. The times they are a changing. Okay good examples people! I suppose I meant to say that songs will stand the test of time for different reasons. It truly is subjective. So, my choice of music will be different than the next person. Although within the last 20 years or so, the availability of music in it's singular form,(one song at a time), and the... MORE

IF YOU SEE HER SAY HELLO

(14)
Blog post image preview On September 12, 1974 Bob Dylan walked into the studio and recorded one of the most remarkable song of his (or anyone else's) career, If You See Her Say Hello. A song of stark, naked emotional loss, a haunted yowl of regret as Dylan examines the still oozing scars of a shattered relationship. The song startles the listener as the narrator by turn rages, whimpers, wails an belies all attempts at acceptance. Its a truly exceptional song, masterfully performed (lived). >>>>Per... MORE
