A wonderful monome demonstration from makingthenoise. The simple monome buttons play like a true instrument in his hands and the song sounds great. Good job! (Source)

He makes it look so easy. Wouldn't it be fun to know what he knows. It's a wide-open field.
Wayway back, science fiction fans believed that this sort of thing would be The Future Of Music.
Maybe.
But not for a long time, i think.

The saw theremin still remains one of our most asked about instruments.
Musician & Sound designer Alexandre Baranger hails from Lyon, France and so kindly created this composition for me with my baby, the very first theremin that I've ever made. Alex's inventive combination of the theremin sound, the jazz vibe and the experimental thumpin' pace creates a truly unique and engaging track. This instrument now resides permanently in his studio, I am glad it is in good hands.

That is very, very cool. Really beautiful. I don't know whether to send cigars or logs, but congratulations are in order. Great track, too. Looks like baby has found a good home.
That's wonderful. Not everybody has made their own theremin. Baranger's piece really puts it to good use.
Have you ever heard a much more mainstream use of a non-saw theremin by the Alan Parsons Project in their song "Can't Take It with You" from their 1978 album Pyramid? You can hear it in the intro and later there's a solo at the 3:44 mark.

I love the piece that Squarepusher played in the video. That intricate guitar or bass picking is truly exciting, and this performance works for me and is not just flashy. The only problem with the video for me is that, like many music videos, it cuts too frequently between close-ups. I want to see how he plays his guitar (or bass?), but I never get to see both his hands in the frame for more than a few brief instances. The cutting has little to do with the rhythm or musical structure of the piece; it seems random. Did the editor think we would get bored by a shot if we had to look at it for more than two seconds? That doesn't evince much confidence in the shots or our attention span. Otherwise, the editing is great!
You might be interested in a performance by another similar bassist in one of my earlier posts.
excellent!

always a pleasure to hear from you, doubly so when it sounds like Squarepusher!
